On April 29, 2025, at 19:58, the Qiaoyu DC Phase II 100-MW CSP project, led by Northwest Engineering Corporation Limited achieved a successful first - time turbine startup and full - system grid - connected power generation on the same day, setting a new record for CSP station construction speed by Northwest Engineering Corporation Limited.
During the project, the team conducted major technical research and national key scientific projects, overcoming key challenges such as high-precision heliostat field control and high-temperature molten salt heat transfer and storage. Through careful planning, optimized construction procedures, a strong workforce, strict safety and quality control, and lean on-site management, an integrated full - life - cycle management approach was formed for the heliostat field, heat storage and heat exchange, and power generation systems.
The project promoted local employment and improved windbreak, desert fixation, and soil conservation through a matrix - style heliostat field and a reclaimed water system, achieving coordinated energy development and ecological protection.
Located in Wutumeiren Township, Golmud City, Qinghai Province, the project, covering 287 hectares, uses internationally advanced tower CSP technology with a 12-hour molten salt heat storage system for stable power supply. After commissioning, it will generate 227.1 million kWh/year, meeting the clean energy needs of 189,300 households, reducing CO₂ emissions by 226,300 tonnes/year, and providing ecological benefits equivalent to afforesting 18,860 hectares. The grid connection marks the first large-scale application of 100-MW CSP in Qinghai.
