According to Northwest Electric Power Design Institute Co., LTD, of China Power Engineering Consulting Group (CPECC Northwest), on April 29, 2025, the CTGR Golmud 100-MW CSP unit successfully completed its first full-set startup, marking a significant breakthrough in construction and laying a solid foundation for timely completion and commissioning.

To ensure the smooth startup, CPECC Northwest, Shouhang High-tech,SEPCO Electric Power Construction Corporation and Shanghai Investigation,Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd. collaborated closely with the debugging unit, China Energy Construction Group Central China Electric Power Research Institute Co., Ltd. Harbin Turbine Factory, Dongfang Electric Corporation, and Shanghai Boiler Works provided active support. During the startup, strict adherence to the turbine commissioning curve was maintained, with stable parameters and excellent indicators. The turbine reached 3,000 rpm successfully on the first attempt, and all tests, including AC impedance, short-circuit, no-load characteristics, excitation dynamic characteristics, and pseudo-synchronization tests, were completed smoothly.

The project has a capacity of 100 MW, using tower CSP technology with an 8-hour molten salt heat storage system. It is expected to generate 22,713.8 GWh annually, with an average annual utilization of 2,271 hours. The design features two towers sharing one common system and a centralized control room, an SGS built adjacent to the turbine house, and a ring-shaped semi-enclosed molten salt platform, all of which offer valuable experience for future tower CSP projects. The participating teams will continue to work hard to ensure grid connection and power generation.
