On April 17, the first steel truss of the transition layer of the steel structure of the heat absorption tower of PowerChina’s Ruoguang solar thermal EPC project undertaken by SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. was successfully hoisted, marking the official start of the installation work of the steel structure inside the heat absorption tower of the project.
Huang Dong, person in charge of the Ruoguang project department of Ruoguang Electric Power Construction Ruida New Energy Co., Ltd. of PowerChina New Energy Group, said, “This project adopts tower-type concentrated heat and power generation technology. The steel truss of the transition layer where the heat absorber is located is positioned at a height of 189 meters, with a total weight of 216 tons, and is expected to be completed in early May. The hoisted steel truss weighs 43.2 tons and is 18.648 meters long.”
The heat absorption tower transition layer platform directly supports the heat absorber, bears the weight of thousands of tons of equipment and the impact of high-density light energy reflected from the heliostat field, and ensures precise optical alignment between the heat absorber and the surrounding heliostat array to maximize solar - thermal conversion efficiency.The project department held a special meeting in advance to compare and study the weather three days before and after the hoisting. According to the wind speed and wind direction, the hoisting time was selected. During the hoisting process, the construction personnel strictly followed the hoisting plan, and the on-site commander’s instructions were clear, ensuring the successful positioning of the first steel truss.
Wang Jinqiang, project manager and Party branch secretary of Shandong Electric Power Construction No. 3 Company’s Ruoguang Solar Thermal Project Department, said, “The successful completion of the hoisting of the first steel truss of the heat - absorption tower transition layer steel structure marks a breakthrough in the construction of the project’s core equipment. By scientifically planning the hoisting window, accurately implementing wind - prevention and stabilization measures, and strictly enforcing standardized operation procedures, the project construction team has successfully overcome the technical challenges of precision hoisting at nearly 200 meters in the highlands, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent steel structure assembly.”
The planned tower - type molten salt solar thermal power project will have a solar - thermal (energy storage) capacity of 100,000 kilowatts and a photovoltaic power generation capacity of 900,000 kilowatts, fully leveraging Ruoguang County’s abundant solar thermal resources. By integrating the tower - type molten salt solar - thermal power generation system with large - scale photovoltaic power stations, the project achieves energy complementarity, significantly improving power generation efficiency and economic benefits. After commissioning, the project is expected to generate 1.96 billion kWh of electricity annually, saving about 6.9 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1.88 million tons and wastewater discharge by 122,200 tons per year, strongly supporting the national “dual - carbon” strategy and inject vitality into the region’s green and high - quality economic development.
