Innovation, Cooperation, and Development: China Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) Conference 2024 Concludes, See You in Xi’an Next Year!

The China Concentrating Solar Power Conference (CSPC) 2024 was successfully held in Dunhuang of Gansu Province from September 11 to 12, hosted by the China Solar Thermal Alliance, Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics, China Renewable Energy Society, and the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering. The conference was co-hosted by SunSum Technology Co., Ltd., and undertaken by the Zhongguancun Xinyuan CSP Technical Service Center and the Institute of Electrical Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), with special assistance from Shandong Enesoon New Material Technology Co., Ltd. More than 720 representatives from governments, enterprises, universities, research institutes, and industrial users participated in the event.

Under the theme of “Innovation, Cooperation, Development”, the conference aimed to advance the development and industrialization of CSP technology. Xu Jianzhong, permanent honorary chairman of the China CSPC and academician from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (via video), Wang Liqi, Secretary of Jiuquan Municipal Party Committee, Chen Song, General Manager of SunSum Technology Co., Ltd., along with senior officials from the hosts and organizers, attended and addressed the conference. Over the two-day event, experts and scholars engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges on the latest technological advancements, market applications, and policy directions regarding CSP. Twenty-seven organizations exhibited their technologies and nearly 80 oral presentations were delivered, covering fields such as optics, mechanics, heat transfer, thermodynamic system analysis, meteorology, and geology, providing plenty of materials and topics for the exchanges and cooperation among scientists, graduate students, industrial players, and technical professionals.

Dr. Wang Zhifeng, Chairman of the Conference, Chairman of the China Solar Thermal Alliance, and a researcher at the Institute of Electrical Engineering of CAS, expressed his heartfelt thanks and best regards to all participants during his speech at the closing ceremony. He noted that after two days of intense and productive discussions, the  conference had come to a successful conclusion. Held in the ancient city of Dunhuang in the theme of “Innovation, Cooperation, Development”, the event provided a platform for in-depth discussions on the latest advances in CSP technology, its market applications, and policy directions across multiple disciplines. The exchanges and sharing not only highlighted the rapid development of CSP in China, but also paid tribute to the industry’s collective efforts for promoting this green energy technology that can be seen as a pillar for energy transition and sustainable development.
Dr. Wang extended special thanks to all the guest speakers for their insightful presentations. Their professional perspectives and cutting-edge ideas provided valuable inspirations for further contemplation. He also expressed gratitude to all participants for their active engagement and contributions, emphasizing that it was their collective efforts that led to the conference’s fruitful results. Looking ahead, he noted that CSP technology will face more opportunities and challenges amidst the broader reform of the power market. It is essential for us to continue pushing innovation, R&D and industrialization for technological advancement and cost reduction in the CSP sector. Meanwhile, we should also enhance cross-sectoral and international cooperation and exchanges to adapt to market changes and promote the large-scale development of the CSP industry.
A flag handover ceremony was also held during the conference. It was officially announced that the China CSPC 2025 will be co-hosted by the Northwest Engineering Corporation Limited of PowerChina Corporation and Zhejiang Cosin Solar Technology Co., Ltd. in Xi’an (tentative).

The successful conference has brought new development opportunities for the CSP industry and built a platform for cooperation and exchanges across industries. The in-depth discussions and interactions not only deepened the participants’ understanding of CSP, but also inspired new research ideas and cooperation opportunities, laying a solid foundation for the future development of CSP technology and the industry.
