Industrial Solar and its local partner Turbo Control have signed an agreement to develop a Fresnel Collector system at Unilever’s Factory located in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

Industrial Solar conducted an extensive engineering study for Unilever Mexico in late 2022. After this study, seeing the feasibility of the project and Industrial Solar’s expertise in providing solar thermal solutions, Unilever Mexico has given the green light for the project. Turbo Control subcontracted Industrial Solar to design, procure, and install the Linear Fresnel Collector system. The primary goal of this project is to generate steam. This steam will be utilized in the factory’s industrial processes for manufacturing personal hygiene products.

First of its kind in Mexico

This initiative marks a significant achievement for both Industrial Solar and Turbo Control. Because the system will be the first commercially installed Fresnel Collector in Latin America. It will be dedicated to producing steam for industrial purposes. Although the collector’s size may be modest, it will serve as a crucial proof of concept for future, larger-scale installations.

The project is expected to span 10 months. The commissioning of the system is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024. Once operational, the Fresnel Collector system will not only deliver renewable process heat but also contribute to Unilever’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.

Industrial Solar and Turbo Control are leading the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable industrial processes in Mexico. This collaboration exemplifies the transformative potential of renewable energy technologies, paving the way for a greener future in Mexico and beyond.
