Herlogas, in collaboration with Shanghai Electric, has now successfully melted 340,000 tons of salt for molten salt thermal energy storage and preheated 14 salt tanks at the largest concentrated solar power plant in the world, DEWA ‘s 700 MW CSP project NOOR I at the Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park in Dubai, UAE.

Once the melting process is complete, the record-breaking CSP project will contain a total of 560,000 tons of molten salt in 26 preheated storage tanks. The record-breaking CSP project commissioned by DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority) to reduce carbon emissions in Dubai also broke a new world record for low price.

DEWA’s contract with ACWA Power was signed 4 years ago for electricity at US $7.3 cents per kilowatt-hour; competitive in Dubai with fossil fuel generated electricity. (Why CSP competes with fossil energy)

The solar technologies include two forms of CSP for 700 MW, and a 250 MW bifacial PV project, making a total of 950 MW of solar energy. 100 MW of the CSP is Tower, and three 200 MW units comprise 600 MW of Trough CSP. (How CSP works)

LinkedIn from Herlogas:

The project supports the Dubai Clean Strategy to increase the share of clean energy at Dubai to 25% by 2030 as well as allowing a saving 2.4 Million tons of CO2.

This project in Dubai adds to the long history of Herlogas in more than 32 thermosolar projects with thermal storage in different countries (Spain, EEUU, South Africa, Morocco, Kuwait, Israel, Chile) having successfully carried out the heating of more than 88 salt tanks and melted more than 1.180.000 tons of salt. This new project reaffirms Herlogas in the field of in the field of renewable energies and confirms Herlogas’ commitment to climate change.
