As a member of China National Solar Thermal Energy Alliance, China Power Engineering Consulting Group Co., Ltd. (CPECC) ‘s first CSP demonstration project in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has started in Hami city in December 16. It is a 50MW molten salt tower CSP project and be invested by CPECC. This event opened the prelude to the solar thermal industry development in Xinjiang, and it also marked the renewable energy development and utilization in Xinjiang has entered a new stage.
Hami city locates in the middle of the Eurasian continent. It has become amajor centre in the Silk Road Economic belt. Hami is not only the gateway of Xinjiang to the domestic, but also the channel and bridgehead of China to the Western countries. This 50MW molten salt tower CSP project is a state advocated renewable energy development pilot and the Xinjiang government would take a variety of preferential measures to promote the rapid and smooth development of solar thermal power industry.
Hami’s 50MW molten salt tower CSP project was identified as one of the China’s first batch of CSP demonstration projects by National Energy Administration in September 13, 2016 and got the benchmark price of 1.15 RMB yuan /kWh. The feasibility study report of this project was completed by Northwest Electric Power Design institute Co., Ltd of CPECC. The technical route of this project is: solarthermal power tower, molten salt as HTF, thermal storage capacity with 8 hours.
Preparatory work of the project was held in Beijing on July 20, 2016, the feasibility study report review meeting was completed in Hami on August 12, and the construction model seminar was held in Xi'an on August 23. The installation was 2 x 50MW in application report, and eventually was listed in the demonstration projectas 50MW.
Construction of the 50MW molten salt tower CSP plant, with a total investment of 1.58 billion RMB yuan, needs 21 months, and will be put into operation in December 2018. It is expected to provide 0.198350 billion kWh green electricity annually. After the completion of the project, stable output and good regulating performance can be achieved. The quality and efficiency of power generation are better than that of PV and wind power generation.
Jingfu Feng, deputy general manager of CPECC, said CSP as an important way of renewable energy utilization, is totally green and conducive to the improvement of China’s energy structure. It can meet the requirements of national energy strategy of sustainable development. At the same time, it has great significance for the protection of ecological environment and the development of harmonious society. The successful start of the project, opened the prelude to the solar thermal industry development in Xinjiang, and it also marked the renewable energy development and utilization in Xinjiang has entered a new stage.
In order to promote the healthy and sustainable development of solar thermal industry in Hami region, Hami government specially commissioned the Northwest Electric Power Design Institute Co. Ltd. prepared a medium-and long-term development perspectives, planning CSP total installation capacity reach to 5GW.From 13th Five-Year to 15th Five-Year, Hami will build a GW level CSP base.Meanwhile, the government will study and carry out planning on development of CSP equipment manufacturing industry, to provide necessary support for the rapiddevelopment of solar thermal industry in Hami.
