When Thomas Bach, President of the
International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced Beijing as the city to host the 2022 Winter Olympics on July 31, 2015, the whole China cheered. Beijing & Zhangjiakou won the bid to host 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
Olympic Agenda 2020 calls for a stronger focus on sustainability,
legacy, and transparency, IOC expressed Beijing & Zhangjiakou was awarded the Games because it fitted this new agenda. Currently, China State
Council has approved the establishment of a renewable energy demonstration zone
in Zhangjiakou city. Zhangjiakou has set a goal to establish a
world leading low-carbon Olympic zone, and this could also help Beijing resolve its air
pollution problem.
It’s
hoped that the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing and Zhangjiakou will promote the winter sports
in the whole country, improve the lifestyle of the public and let the world
learn more about China. China had hosted a successful Olympic Games in 2008. There is reason
to believe that when the world gives us an opportunity, China will
present it with a miracle.
