2012 the 6th Sanya International CSP Forum was held successfully in Pullman Oceanview Sanya Bay Resort & Spa hotel, Hainan province on Aug. 21- 23, which was organized by Chinese Renewable Energy Society, Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics and Department of High and New Technology Development and Industrialization, Ministry of Science and Technology, hosted by Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences and National Alliance for Solar Thermal Energy, Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), and co-hosted by Hainan Renewable Energy Association and Himin Solar Co., Ltd.
More than 350 representatives from China mainland, China Taiwan, South Korea, Spain, the United States, Germany and other countries and regions attended the forum. The participants’ background covers a wide range, from governmental officers, researchers in universities and institutes, company representatives to investors and so on.
More than 40 persons made presentations in these 3 days. The presented topics cover technology, market and industry status of the concentrating solar power (CSP), and the critical S&T problems including materials, thermal storage, heat collection, system design and site selection in the CSP commercialization. In this year’s forum, two sessions were specially organized, one was for the 973 project and the other was for the National Alliance for Solar Thermal Energy, MOST, which were open to all participants.
The Sanya CSP forum was held once a year and firstly opened in 2007 , which intends to provide a platform for communication, exchange and cooperation related with solar thermal technology. China has grasped the core technology in concentration, heat collection, high temperature thermal storage and system integration etc. On August 9, 2012, Beijing Badaling CSP Tower Plant passed its first power generation test and through this project China built the world-class research and development base of CSP technology and a series of important scientific experimental platforms, which have laid firm foundation for the development of CSP technology.
