On Dec. 23, 2010 (Beijing) the national standard of Solar Thermal Power Vocabulary (hereinafter refer to vocabulary standard) validation was held by the National Technical Committee 402 on Solar Energy of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC402). Mr. Junsheng Zhu, director of SAC/TC402 hosted as the validation team leader. The validation group was composed of fourteen professionals from universities, research institutes and enterprises. The reviewers unanimously agreed that the terminology standard can be published as a national standard.

The vocabulary standard is proposed by the Standardization Administration of the People’s Republic of China in line with the needs of solar thermal power (CSP) technology and market development at home and abroad, and supported by the National Hi-tech R&D Program (863 program), National Basic Research Program (973 program) of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan and the Knowledge Innovation Program of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

As the first CSP related national standard, the terminology standard involves in meteorology, astronomy, engineering thermal-physics, optics, materials, mechanics, chemistry, pneumatics, control, power electronics, electricity, environmental protection and standardization, etc. So far there is no reference in the world correspondingly. Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, together with other fourteen organizations established the drafting group: on the one hand to fully discuss and exchange with those domestic and international experts and on the other hand to arrange a series of targeted theoretical and experimental researches, especially on the critical subjects such as performance evaluation on mirrors and receivers, thermal storage system and CSP plant simulation. Several famous CSP international experts contributed their knowledge in the drafting process.

From the start in 2008 to the validation at the end of 2010, it takes three years efforts of the experts to finally finalize the terminology standard with more than 140 CSP related terms. The validation committee commented that the terminology standards are comprehensive and systematic in content and original in form.

The terminology standard is the basic standard of the CSP field and can be identified as a criterion of standard. Its publication and implementation will play a regulatory and guiding role in the CSP development in China.
