Qinghai Zhongkong Delingha 350MW CSP Demonstration (Pilot) Project Achieves Milestone Progress

On October 26, Qinghai Zhongkong Solar Power Generation Co., Ltd.'s Delingha 350MW CSP demonstration (pilot) project reached a significant milestone — all three solar receiver towers were successfully topped out, marking a major phase of progress for what will be the world's largest tower concentrating solar power (CSP) project under construction, with the largest energy storage capacity.

Located in Delingha City, Qinghai Province, the project is one of the province's key solar thermal demonstration projects. With an installed capacity of 350MW, it adopts tower molten salt CSP technology and is equipped with 14-hour molten salt thermal energy storage, enabling long-duration, continuous and stable power generation.

Since construction began, the project team has overcome adverse conditions such as high altitude and low temperatures, organizing the work scientifically and executing construction with precision, and successfully advanced the main structure of the receiver towers. The three receiver towers, which were topped out simultaneously on that day, began their main structure concrete pouring on June 6 and were completed after five months of construction. Standing at 199 meters tall, the tower structures have withstood the challenges of plateau sandstorms and extreme temperature fluctuations, laying a solid foundation for subsequent equipment installation.

As one of Qinghai Province's first CSP demonstration projects, upon commissioning, the project will promote the large-scale and commercial application of CSP technology, continuously optimize the regional energy structure, and significantly enhance the grid's peak-shaving capability. At the same time, it will also drive the development of related industrial chains such as equipment manufacturing and operation & maintenance services, supporting high-quality economic and social development in the local area.

Currently, main works including the powerhouse and the thermal storage and heat exchange systems are progressing in parallel, and all participating contractors are making an all-out push toward the remaining milestones, striving to achieve grid connection and power generation as soon as possible.
