Debut Achievement! Datang Shichengzi Solar Thermal Power Plant Exceeds 50 Hours of Continuous Power Generation in a Single Run

According to Datang Xinjiang Power Generation Co., Ltd., at 00:39 on September 15, 2026, China's Datang's first Linear Fresnel solar thermal demonstration project — the Datang Shichengzi 100 MW Solar Thermal Power Plant — delivered another encouraging report following its successful 168-hour trial operation on September 10: it achieved a continuous uninterrupted power generation run of 51.23 hours, with a single-run power output exceeding 1 million kWh, setting a new domestic record for the longest continuous power generation run by a 100 MW-class Linear Fresnel power generation project.

This record-breaking uninterrupted continuous run began at 21:25 on September 12, 2026, serving as the project's "debut achievement" after completing its 168-hour trial operation on September 10.

According to earlier reports, the Datang Shichengzi "Solar Thermal + Photovoltaic" Integrated Clean Energy Demonstration Project is located in Yizhou District, Hami City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and is part of the third batch of national "Desert, Gobi and Barren Land" (Shagehuang) base projects. The project is constructed using a complementary "solar thermal + photovoltaic" model, comprising 100 MW of CSP capacity and 900 MW of photovoltaic power generation capacity.

Among them, the 100 MW CSP project is China's first large-scale Linear Fresnel molten salt solar thermal power plant with 100% domestically produced core equipment. It achieved successful first grid connection on April 30, 2026. The project has an installed capacity of 100 MW; its solar concentration and heat collection system adopts the molten salt Linear Fresnel technology route, equipped with 260,000 heliostats (reflective mirrors), a total collector area of 800,000 square meters, and 8 hours of thermal energy storage. The EPC general contractor is the consortium of Northwest Electric Power Design Institute Co., LTD, of China Power Engineering Consulting Group and NORTHWESTERN THIRD ELECTRIC POWER CONSTRUCTION CO., LTD., with Lanzhou Dacheng Technology Co.,Ltd. responsible for the supply of the concentration and heat collection system equipment.
