China National Clean Energy Industry Highland CSP Technology Innovation Center Unveiled in Qinghai

The China National Clean Energy Industry Highland Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) Technology Innovation Center was unveiled on the 16th at the 2026 Qinghai Clean Energy Development Forum held in Xining. The center will focus on promoting the co-construction and sharing of China's CSP technology innovation and industrial cluster development.

Yang Kun, Executive Vice Chairman of the China Electricity Council, stated that Qinghai has taken the lead in China in forming a dual-main development pattern for both new energy installed capacity and power generation. Qinghai's CSP industry advantages are prominent, with both commissioned and under-construction CSP capacity ranking first in China.

He noted that Qinghai has pioneered innovative practices in green power trading, green certificate traceability, zero-carbon parks, and computing-power synergy, continuously exploring new pathways for high-proportion clean energy consumption and high-efficiency utilization, providing experience for the construction of China's new-type power system.

Qinghai Governor Luo Dongchuan introduced that in recent years, Qinghai has supported enterprises in focusing on technological iteration of trough, tower, and dish CSP systems, intensifying core technology breakthroughs and scenario applications in long-duration thermal storage, high-efficiency heat collection, and intelligent operation and maintenance, and continuously laying out high-end CSP equipment manufacturing, core material R&D, and system integration innovation, with major breakthroughs achieved in tower and trough molten salt technologies.

Luo Dongchuan said that currently, the localization rate of Qinghai's CSP intelligent heliostat field control, multi-variable coordination, and extreme environment self-adaptation systems exceeds 95%, with heliostat field precision, energy storage efficiency, and power generation stability reaching internationally leading levels. A complete chain of "R&D + manufacturing + power station + O&M" has been established, filling the gap in core CSP component manufacturing in western China.

As of the end of May this year, China's total installed capacity of new energy power generation exceeded 1.9 billion kW, with wind power, photovoltaic, hydropower, and energy storage industries ranking first globally for many years, contributing over 80% of global photovoltaic modules and 70% of wind power equipment, strongly promoting the global low-carbon energy transition.
