12 November , the 100 MW concentrating solar thermal (CSP) unit of the SPIC Henan Electric Power Co., Ltd. Xinjiang Shanshan 1 GW CSP-PV integrated project has successfully passed the 72+24-hour full-load trial operation. This milestone marks the final critical step before commercial service for the CSP portion and lays a solid foundation for the plant’s full commissioning.

Invested in and developed by SPIC Henan Electric Power Co., Ltd., the project is located in Qiketai Town, Shanshan County, Turpan City. With a total installed capacity of 1 GW—900 MW of PV and 100 MW of CSP—it features a 500 000 m² heliostat field and a 12-hour molten-salt thermal-energy storage system. Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute Corp., Ltd. serves as the EPC contractor. The plant uses the tower-type molten-salt CSP technology independently developed by Zhejiang Kexin Technology Co., Ltd., which also supplied the solar field integration package.
On 30 April 2025 the 100 MW CSP station achieved first-time grid-connection; on 30 May the entire CSP-PV hybrid project reached full-capacity grid connection. Once fully operational, the complex will deliver more than 2 TWh of clean electricity annually.
