Recently, Northwest Engineering Corporation Limited and Northwest Electric Power Design Institute Co., LTD, of China Power Engineering Consulting Group have successively won bids for two key system designs of the first batch of national 350MW-level CSP demonstration (pilot) projects—key system design—survey and design package one and core design—survey and design package two for the Qinghai Zhongkong Delingha 350MW CSP demonstration project and the Qinghai Yichu Golmud 350MW tower CSP project. This marks the beginning of the large-scale construction of the third generation of CSP technology in China.
Qinghai Zhongkong Delingha 350MW CSP Demonstration (Pilot) Project
Qinghai Yichu Golmud 350MW Tower CSP Demonstration Project
As the CSP demonstration (pilot) projects in Qinghai Province in 2024, these projects represent the opening chapter of China’s new generation of CSP technology. Both projects innovatively adopt a three-tower + three-mirror field + distributed molten salt energy storage layout. The power generated will be sold at a price of 0.55 yuan per kilowatt-hour (including tax) after they are put into operation.
The Qinghai Zhongkong Delingha CSP project is invested and constructed by Zhejiang Zhongguang New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. Located in the Delingha Industrial Park in Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province, the project covers an area of approximately 1,390 hectares and has a total investment of about 5 billion yuan. The mirror field covers an area of 3.15 million square meters, with a heat storage duration of 14 hours. The project’s feasibility study report was reviewed and approved on March 14 this year.
The Qinghai Yichu Golmud CSP project is invested and constructed by Cosin Solar Technology Co., Ltd.Located in the solar power generation park in Wutumeiren Township, Golmud City, Haixi Prefecture, the project covers an area of 1,373 hectares and has a total investment of about 5 billion yuan. The mirror field covers an area of 3.3 million square meters, with a heat storage duration of 14 hours. The project’s feasibility study report was reviewed and approved on April 24 this year.
In the construction of the projects, Northwest Electric Power Design Institute Co., LTD, of China Power Engineering Consulting Group will be responsible for the design of key core systems and components of the solar thermal power stations, including multi-tower and multi-mirror field layout, heat absorption towers and heat absorption systems, distributed molten salt heat storage systems, scheduling optimization of multiple heat storage modules, and long-distance molten salt transportation.
China Energy Engineering Group Northwest China Electrical Power Test Research Institute CO., LTD. will be responsible for the design of all systems other than the mirror field, covering core systems such as heat storage and heat exchange, power generation units, and auxiliary systems.
