The 15th Solar Thermal Utilization Science and Technology Graduate Student Forum Held in Huzhou

From June 7 to 8, 2025, the 15th Solar Thermal Utilization Science and Technology Graduate Student Forum was held in Xisai Science Valley, Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province. The forum, themed "My Research, My Innovation," was organized by the CSTA and co-hosted by Huzhou Industrial Control Technology Research Institute, Zhejiang Green Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd., and ZhongGuanCun XinYuan Solar Thermal Technology Service Center.

Green Huzhou, Lighting Up New Tracks for Solar Thermal Development

In his opening remarks, Jin Kai, Vice Mayor of Huzhou, stated that Huzhou has established a dual-driven model of "scientific and technological innovation + industrial innovation," and sincerely invited young talents to innovate and start businesses in Huzhou to achieve their careers.

Professor Liu Yafang from Zhejiang University pointed out that solar thermal utilization technology has significant opportunities in the field of green electricity development and holds strategic significance in building a new energy system.

Xiao Gang, Deputy Chairman of the CSTA and Professor at Zhejiang University, said that the forum has become a key platform for talent cultivation in the industry. He hopes that students will focus on the cutting-edge of technology and promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements.

Invited Reports by Mentors: Focusing on Frontier Technologies and Innovative Directions

Six experts delivered invited reports on the frontier technologies of solar thermal utilization.

Jin Jianxiang, President of Huzhou Industrial Control Technology Research Institute, presented a report titled "Research on New Types of Molten Salt and Molten Salt Thermal Energy Storage and Exchange System Technology for CSP," focusing on new types of molten salt and thermal energy storage and exchange technologies to guide the improvement of efficiency and reduction of system costs for CSP stations. Rao Zhonghao, Professor at Hebei University of Technology, discussed the significance of thermal energy storage in achieving the "dual carbon" goals in his report "Focusing on Thermal Energy Storage to Support the Dual Carbon Goals and Grow Together." Zeng Kuo, Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, explained innovative ideas for solar thermal utilization in multiple scenarios in his report "Solar Fuels and Phase Change Thermal Energy Storage." Wu Yuting, a researcher at Beijing University of Technology, provided a new perspective on molten salt energy storage applications in his report "Applications and Research Progress of Low-Melting-Point, Wide-Temperature-Range Molten Salts for Long-Term Energy Storage and High-Temperature Heat Transfer." Tang Zhongfeng, a researcher at the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, analyzed core molten salt technologies in his report "Research and Application Progress of High-Temperature Molten Salt Heat Transfer and Storage Characteristics." Wang Hongsheng, an associate professor at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, demonstrated the integration of solar energy and chemical hydrogen production in his report "Concentrated Solar Thermochemical Hydrogen Production."

Graduate Student Report Exchange: Focusing on Three Themes and Selecting Outstanding Achievements

A total of 46 graduate students from more than 20 universities and research institutes, including Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tianjin University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, and China Agricultural University (listed in alphabetical order of their institutions), presented and exchanged reports on the themes of "materials," "components and equipment," and "systems." Professors Wang Yunfeng from Yunnan Normal University, Wang Lingling from Shanghai Second Polytechnic University, Wu Yuting from Beijing University of Technology, Wu Zhiyong from the Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhao Li from Tianjin University, and Tang Zhongfeng from the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, provided on-site guidance as commenting experts. The forum selected 15 "Outstanding Reports." Fifteen graduate students also received the "DeFang Solar Thermal Utilization Scholarship," with first prize at 2,000 yuan, second prize at 1,000 yuan, and third prize at 800 yuan. The scholarship was established by Researcher Wang Defang from the Gansu Institute of Natural Energy.
