On May 11, the Qinghai Repub 50 MW CSP plant, operated by POWERCHINA Power Operation and Maintenance Management Company, achieved a daily output of 918,750 kWh, marking the highest since its commissioning.
Since taking over the operation and maintenance of the power plant, which is part of the first batch of national solar thermal demonstration projects at the end of 2024, the company has prioritized safety, strengthened equipment, management and implemented refined control measures. To boost the unit's reliability, the company launched a campaign to enhance power generation efficiency and ensure safe and stable equipment operation. Company leaders and technical experts visited the site multiple times to provide technical guidance, set key tasks, and optimize operational strategies. They improved overall operational procedures by increasing the frequency of heliostat cleaning and enhancing equipment maintenance efficiency, thereby boosting the system's utilization rate. Project managers and operational staff analyzed and optimized the system's operational modes in response to the unpredictable weather at the Tara Beach site, developing practical and targeted operational plans. Maintenance personnel worked overtime to significantly shorten the heliostat cleaning cycle, improving the mirror field's utilization rate and boosting power generation to enhance the power supply guarantee capacity.
Owned and operated by POWERCHINA, the Repub 50 MW Tower Solar Thermal Power Plant was designed and constructed by Northwest Engineering Corporation Limited, a member of CSTA. Located in the Ecological CSP Park in Repub County, Hai'nan Prefecture, Qinghai Province, the power plant sits at an average elevation of 2,880 meters and covers 2.12 square kilometers. Construction commenced on May 6, 2018, and it was connected to the grid on September 19, 2019, becoming the fourth solar thermal demonstration project in China to achieve grid connection. On April 22, 2021, the project passed the national demonstration inspection.
