The strongest typhoon “Rammasun” to hit South China since 1973 made landfall in Hainan province on July 18, 2014. The deadly storm, with maximum winds of 60 meters per second near the center, tore through Hainan. The National Meteorological Center and weather authorities in Lingao County, Hainan province issued a red alert, the most severe of the nation's color-coded weather warning system, for the typhoon. According to Oceanic & Fishery Administration of Lingao county, typhoon “Rammasun” resulted in the loss of 330 million yuan in marine fisheries, and affected 263.5 thousand mu of crops, among which the area of economic crops was 208.4 thousand mu.

The picture below is an international cooperation project of Ministry of Science and Technology located in Lingao county, Hainan province——CSP seawater desalination/cogeneration system. The system defeated “Rammasun” successfully! The control room was destroyed in the typhoon, while the solar collectors and desalination system was intact. The undertaking unit of the project is Hainan Tiannen Co. Ltd., participating units are Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beijing Huan-Energy Group Co., Ltd. IEE was responsible for system and collector designing. Hainan Tianneng Co., LTD. and Beijing Jingchengcailong Steel Structure Technology Development Co., Ltd. are construction units. Defeating the typhoon was an affirmation to the technology of the project units, and also helps build confidence for China to set up large-scale solar concentrating collecting system!
