On May 29, 2013, a solar electricity-water cogeneration demonstration system developed by Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences(IEE,CAS) was completed in Lingao county, Hainan province, and the system commissioning was also finished. This project was conducted under the support of Sino-EU small and medium enterprises innovative fund, Ministry of Science and Technology, China. And the cooperation unit of the project is Hainan Sun Power Co., LTD., which is affiliated with Hainan Holding Group.
Based on the principle of solar electricity-water cogeneration and energy cascade utilization, by ustilizing the coordinative operation technology of power generation – energy storage – seawater desalination, this system can promote energy utilization efficiency of CSP system, so as to optimize energy use efficiency and improve economical performance.
This demonstration system consists of solar collecting field, steam and thermal systems, desalination system and control system, etc. The aperture area of the collector is 200 square meters, the working pressure of steam generator is 2.35 MPa, the generating power is 120 kW and the design capacity of the desalination system is 5 tons/day. The experiment results in May 2013 demonstrate that on the condition that normal direct solar irradiance is 800W/m2, the system could produce 2.35MPa saturated steam continuously and the water yield of the system reaches 0.35 tons/hour.
Based on this project, the research team will conduct researches on large-scale electricity-water cogeneration and solar seawater desalination system optimization, large equipment design and development, electricity-water production-energy storage design and simulation under unsteady state. The research team will further study, analyze and optimize the system startup and operating principle, realize the compatibility and optimization of the collector field – generating system – desalination system – the capacity of the energy storage system, comprehensively promote system design and integration capability, reduce design cost and shorten payback period, so as to promote the development and industrialization of China’s CSP technology, seawater desalination technology and electricity-water cogeneration technology.
